Review: Film review РMission to Mars (2000) РThough not great this is a decent sci-fi movie. Hollywood has thrown enough money at the special effects to ensure that you are taken along by the plot without doubting its reality. There is a good ensemble cast here and the film has been well cast with all the leading characters feeling as though they are in the right place at the right time.

The plot involves a crew who travel to Mars and while on the planet experience a disastrous event. The plot then switches to a second crew who are sent on a hastily arranged rescue mission. Good special effects and some good acting take the plot on nicely and there is a suitably enigmatic ending to satisfy most sci-fi fans.

This is light weight sci-fi, no scary stuff or terrifying monsters here but enjoyable nevertheless.

All that said there is one scene that should have hit the cutting room floor just because its been so badly overplayed and I can’t stop myself from mentioning it even though I can’t be specific about it as its a plot reveal. Its just before the rescue crew reach Mars.

Pizza and a beer and this film hits the spot.
