Review: Film review – Nine Months (1995) – The description of this movie prior to me watching it was a “delightful romantic comedy”. I’m afraid there’s not much delightful about it. Romance? Not really. Comedy? Strictly limited.

The plot is very basic, Hugh Grant and Julianne Moore are young, free and single. Suddenly Julianne falls pregnant. Hugh Grant doesn’t take it so well and things kick-off from there. Predictable, straight down the line Hollywood churn movie.

Strangely one of the problems is Hugh Grant, normally so good in this kind of movie I’m afraid he’s not here. Normally he’s good because he just plays himself but in this case he seems to be acting a part and as a result is totally unconvincing and over the top. Can’t help thinking Hollywood got in the way of this film. It lacks any kind of subtlety or finesse with every scene broadcast in as load and brash a way as possible.

Perhaps if you’re into babies or have had them it has some deep dark meaning but for me it was mulch and the further I got through it the more points I took of its rating.

Trust me, you don’t need to see this one. Rubbish.
